Overview: This study supported a healthcare product design team in understanding the experiences of parents caring for children with tracheostomies. The insights gained directly contributed to the development of life-saving technology for children with medical complexities (CMC).
Approach:
Employed an exploratory qualitative approach to capture the systemic challenges faced by caregivers and medical professionals managing pediatric tracheostomies.
Conducted thematic analysis using ATLAS.ti, extracting key insights from interviews with U.S.-based healthcare professionals and caregivers.
Collaborated with cross-functional teams to publish findings in Qualitative Health Research and Health Expectations journals.

The Biodesign Program at Children’s National Hospital secured non-dilutive funding from the Children's Hospital Founder's Auxiliary Board and The Alliance for Pediatric Device Innovation (APDI) to advance TrachSense development.
Successfully filed a patent and engaged early with the FDA through a Pre-Clinical Investigation (PCI) meeting.
Submitted an FDA Pre-Submission application to facilitate regulatory approval
